Ashley Sumpter
Professional Counselor, Intern
Ashley is a professional counselor intern student within the state of Oregon. In 2020, she completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Portland State University. In the spring of 2024, Ashley will be graduating from University of Providence with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Ashley has a variety of experience, including having spent the last year and a half working with students at a local elementary school.
Ashleys approach to therapy is dynamic, as she recognizes there is no “one size fits all,” technique when it comes to working with her clients. Ashley views her clients holistically. She enjoys using techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) due to its resounding support for its effectiveness from researchers within the field. She also enjoys using Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, and Sand Tray therapy depending on her client and what works best for their healing journey.
Ashley believes everyone has a story, and wishes to learn her client’s stories and affirm their experiences. Ashley has a goal of supporting her clients in achieving their goals, overcoming their struggles, and helping them to lead a more satisfying and meaningful life.
Beginning the journey of healing takes bravery and vulnerability. Finding the right person to support you as you navigate this journey is imperative. Ashley will provide a safe and accepting space for her clients to achieve healing in their own time.
Ashley is supervised by Kelle DeBruin.
